ARTIST BIO

Hannah is a professional artist and tutor based in Devon in the south west of England. Her work is inspired by the natural world, taking in the landscapes of coast and countryside along with the flora and fauna within.  Much of Hannah’s practice is dedicated to working from life and painting ‘en plein air.’  This direct and intuitive start cements the backbone of the painting whilst offering energy & atmosphere. Sound draughtsmanship underpins Hannah’s art and her fascination to re-create light and life brings her work alive.

Original works and prints are available to purchase directly and commissions are welcomed for a variety of subjects including landscapes, human and pet portraits and wildlife studies. To date one of Hannah’s most prestigious commissions was to paint three- time Grand National Winner, Red Rum.

Alongside her own art, Hannah runs regular workshops and demonstrations across Devon and Dorset, along with painting retreats in France.

Most of Hannah’s formal training has been with Nicholas Beer, who was Senior instructor at the Charles Cecil Studios, Florence for over twenty years. She also takes great inspiration from the great masters such as Sergeant, Munnings and contemporary artists Richard Schmid, Ken Howard RA, Stephen Brown RA and Hollis Dunlap.

"I adore being outdoors in the countryside and when I am not creating or teaching art, then you will often find me spending time with my horse Mr Darcy. The knowledge that I have gained from watching them, riding them and handling them has given me a greater understanding of their mechanics. I love all animals and nature will always inspire me.   I have a twin sister Kate who is a Designer and we often share ideas and support each other with our work & life! I enjoy assisting her with her copper patina art and jewellery… she is the ‘Techy Twin’ and makes up my team!
